Contribute
Many people begin by joining our workshops or community events. As relationships grow, some choose to volunteer, while others take on stewardship or internship roles.
There is no single way to contribute. People participate in Food Citizen in different ways, depending on their interests, availability and stage of life.
Some come to explore a more thoughtful way of contributing to society and caring for our living Earth. Some enjoy being outdoors and working with their hands. Others enjoy conversations with children or seniors. Still others take ownership of ongoing responsibilities that help Food Citizen grow its education and research work.
Food Citizen is a good fit for people who enjoy learning, taking initiative, working with both their hands and minds, and caring for people as much as the environment. Many of us wear multiple hats, so curiosity, responsibility and a willingness to learn matter more than having all the answers.
As Food Citizen grows, we occasionally create paid positions for individuals who wish to contribute on a project or longer-term basis. We're especially interested in people who care about the work and have participated in at least three of our workshops or community events.
If there isn't a suitable opening right now, we'd still love to hear from you. Send us a message on social media or come say hello at one of our events.
Volunteer
Volunteer because you care about the work, enjoy spending time with our team and practitioners, or would like to support a particular event or project. There is no ongoing commitment. We generally ask volunteers to have attended at least three Food Citizen workshops or community events so that they're familiar with how we work.

Steward
Take ownership of an ongoing area of Food Citizen's work.
Stewards look after recurring responsibilities such as research, supporting our work-spaces and operations, supporting or facilitating workshops and community events, or coordinating programmes behind the scenes.
These roles involve regular commitment, ownership, and initiative over time. Wherever possible, we compensate stewardship responsibilities because we believe sustained care should be fairly supported.
Internship
Learn by contributing.
Internships are for students and early- to mid-career individuals who want to explore the intersections of urban and ecological regeneration, research, education, art, and social enterprise.
Work alongside us on real projects while receiving mentorship, regular feedback, and opportunities to reflect on your learning. At any one time, we typically welcome one or two interns who are curious, self-directed and willing to learn by doing.
"Thank you for the past three months of internship! I feel I have grown in understanding composting, edible plants and research. Through our weekly check-ins, I've also become more confident communicating with others and more disciplined in completing my work." -- Jonathan Yeo, intern
